Ceremony organized in memory of martyr Lt Sushil Khajuria at MAM PG College

Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) Dr Mushtaq Rather asked the officials to take measures for smooth and hassle free functioning of health care institutions during winters.

“In the light of the decisions taken in the meeting held today under the chairmanship of Advisor Farooq Khan regarding arrangements for winter preparations, all Chief Medical Officers, Medical Superintendents and Block Medical Officers are obliged to take all necessary measures for smooth and hassle-free . In terms of ensuring free operation of health care institutions during winters, availability of essential medicines, proper heating, ambulance services, setting up of control rooms at district/block level and staff presence of both doctors and paramedics in hospitals ,” Dr Rather said in an official release.

Winters are a challenging time in Kashmir. Though the facilities available to a normal family in Kashmir could not be imagined a few decades ago, a large population has to face many difficulties during these months.

Most of the hospitals in Kashmir start their heating systems very late, even when the minimum temperature starts to drop to zero level. This should not have happened. The arrangements should be such that the minimum temperature never falls below a specified mark within the hospital premises.

Apart from this, a situational report on various parameters decided by the officials will also be shared.

These parameters include road connectivity to hospital in case of prevailing weather, availability of LPG for heating purposes, availability of petrol and diesel for generators, availability of generators, ambulances and their flexibility, oxygen cylinder stock and others. Hospitals will also require details about the number of referrals to be made by them and the reason for the referral. The Directorate will also be required to update the number of trauma, accident and other injuries in the prescribed proforma.
