Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Monday said that India is an ideal place and his permanent residence and he likes India.

The statement comes in the backdrop of the December 9 skirmish where People’s Liberation Army troops approached the LAC in the Tawang sector, which was retaliated strongly and resolutely by the Indian troops. Some personnel from both the sides suffered minor injuries in the face-off.

Making a statement in the Rajya Sabha, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh explained to the House about an incident and said, “On December 9, 2022, PLA troops attempted to cross the LAC in the Yangtse sector of Tawang sector and unilaterally change the status quo. tried. Our soldiers countered this Chinese attempt with firmness and determination. The face-off that followed resulted in a scuffle, in which the Indian Army bravely prevented the PLA from intruding into our territory and forced them to return to their posts.”

He further said that “some personnel from both sides suffered injuries in the clash”, and clarified that “there have been no fatalities or serious casualties from our side”.

“Due to the timely intervention of the Indian military commanders, the PLA troops went back to their positions,” Singh said.

The minister further said that as a follow up of the incident, the local commander of the area “held a flag meeting with his counterpart on December 11, 2022 to discuss the issue as per the established mechanism”.

“The Chinese side was told to desist from such actions and maintain peace and tranquility along the border. The issue has also been taken up with the Chinese side through diplomatic channels,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, the Tibetan spiritual leader is scheduled to stay in Delhi for 2-3 days and then proceed to Bodh Gaya in Bihar for spiritual teachings and other events. There will be health screening in Delhi apart from some meetings and events in Delhi.
