J&K DGP approves retirement gifts for police personnel

In an effort to empower women socially and economically, J&K Mission Youth has announced the implementation of Tejaswini Yojana in the Union Territory. Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha launched a start-up funding program for adolescent and young women of the Union Territory on the occasion of International Women’s Day, to make them empowered and self-reliant through their business ventures.

The broad objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to young women in the age group of 18 to 35 years for setting up profitable self-employment ventures suited to their skills, training, qualifications and local conditions. The officials have asked the women entrepreneurs to formalize their proposals, which will be approved by the district level implementation committee.

Notification seeking applications will be issued in each district, while an online portal will also be available for online application and approval. According to a spokesperson, women entrepreneurs will be given the facility to get financial assistance up to Rs 5 lakh under Mudra from J&K Bank. In addition, Mission Youth, J&K will provide Rs 50,000 or 10% of the project cost as subsidy.

In addition, as a special incentive, the Mission will also sponsor the interest component of the Youth Loan, and its repayment will be interest-free for young women entrepreneurs. The objective of this scheme is to help all the eligible girls who are the natives of Jammu and Kashmir and have the qualification of matriculation and above. It will also cater to enterprises where women entrepreneurs have not less than 50% financial stake, apart from setting up women centric businesses and micro start-ups.

Due to low participation of women in various entrepreneurship and livelihood generation activities, Mission Youth has conceptualized this scheme for young women of UT to uplift the status of women in the society. Mission Youth has set a target to cover 2,000 women entrepreneurs under this project during the current financial year. Mission Youth has earmarked a budgetary component of Rs 12 crore on government subsidy for the scheme. This system is specially designed to ensure that the businesses set up by these young women turn into viable and prosperous enterprises.

Mission Youth has made decentralized implementation of the scheme to ensure convenience to the prospective women entrepreneurs. The spokesman said that the District Level Committee constituted under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioners concerned in this regard would implement the plan and approve the cases for assistance. In addition, he said that the concerned AD/DD employment of each district has also been designated as the nodal officer at the district level to facilitate women entrepreneurs under the scheme.

“The scheme will prove to be an important step towards boosting the employment scenario in Jammu and Kashmir, where the unemployment rate is higher than the national average,” he said. Women can enroll in the scheme from July 27 through the website www.jkyouthportal.in.
