After ordering a full series for the project back in May, NBC has now unveiled the official synopsis for long jumpAn upcoming reboot/legacy sequel to the classic US TV series, which begins nearly thirty years after Scott Bakula’s failure to build Dr. Sam Beckett’s home.
The new series is created by writers and showrunners Steven Lillian and Brian Winbrandt (god friend me, alcatrazu), and looks at Raymond Lee (just, Kevin Can F**k Himself) leading the cast as Dr. Ben Song (seen above) with Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park and Nanarissa Lee. The official summary reads:
It’s been almost 30 years since Dr. Sam Beckett came and disappeared in the Quantum Leap accelerator. Now, a new team led by physicist Ben Song (Raymond Lee) has been assembled to restart the project in hopes of understanding the secrets behind the machine and the man who built it. However, everything changes when Ben makes an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving the team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it. Edison (Caitlin Bassett) is by Ben’s side throughout his jump, which appears as a hologram that only Ben can see and hear. He is a graceful army veteran who brings a level of precision in his work.
At the helm of the highly secretive operation is Herbert “Magic” Williams (Ernie Hudson), a no-nonsense career military man who has to answer to his bosses who won’t be happy to learn of a breach of protocol. The rest of the team at Headquarters includes Ian Wright (Mason Alexander Park), who runs the artificial intelligence unit “Ziggy”, and Jane Chow (Nanarissa Lee), who leads the digital security for the project. As Ben leaps from life to life, correcting what once went wrong, it becomes clear that he and the team are on an exciting journey. However, Addison, Magic, Ian and Jane know that if they are going to solve the mystery of Ben’s jump and bring him home, they must act fast or lose him forever.
Quantum Leap is set to premiere on NBC on Monday, September 19.
