Two new airports to be set up in J&K: Union Civil Aviation Minister

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday said the Center “plans to spend Rs 60,000 crore in the Union Territory alone in the next 2 to 3 years” through which the Union Territory will “see a new cycle of development and prosperity”.

A government handout said the amount would be used “to create employment avenues, motivate youth to set up micro income generating units and boost the local economy”.

Union Minister of State for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Information Technology Rajiv Chandrashekhar made these remarks while addressing a gathering of ITI and Polytechnic students at a conference cum seminar organized in his honor at ITI Complex Wadipora Budgam.

“I have seen and personally observed that the local youth of Kashmir are full of talent and skills. They need to be motivated, show interest in getting highly skilled training, need to be energized as huge opportunities for job creation are available,” the minister said.

Chandrashekhar claimed, “About 8 lakh new jobs were created in IT and manufacturing sectors from 1st April 2020 to 30th April 2021”.

“It is our mission, goal and serious promise to strengthen entrepreneurship diversification as it has a huge economic potential to absorb youth in various sectors,” he said.

The Minister appealed to the aspiring youth to be “committed, positive in outlook and enthusiastic to make and fulfill every dream”.

On this occasion Principal Secretary Skill Development Department Dr. Asghar Hasan Samoon, DC Budgam Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza, Director Skill Development Department, SSP Budgam, Principal ITI Budgam and other district officers were present.

“The purpose of the ministers visiting the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is to examine the situation related to development and other aspects at the ground level”, the minister said.

“This is an initiative of the PM and the first of its kind revolutionary mission specifically for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir,” the minister said.

Chandrashekhar further said, “We have come here with professional purpose and ambition, our journeys will be result oriented.”

The minister lauded the concerned J&K officials for the “huge work done in skill development”, even as he said the sector needed more boost and push.

“Budgam has potential and talent which he has displayed through incredible skill,” he added.

The Minister also inspected the Automobile Training Center of ITI Budgam, besides stalls showcasing and showcasing manufacturing skills, talent and professionalism in the respective arts and trades by skilled youth.

Later, the minister presided over a meeting of officials convened at the conference hall Budgam, where a detailed review of each area was done under the plan. DC Budgam presented the development and welfare scenario of the district through a detailed power point presentation.

Studying the details, the Minister appreciated the district administration and its officers in achieving the given targets despite facing inconveniences due to COVID-19 crisis and other circumstances. He exhorted the district administration to continue its work with the same spirit, conviction and dedication.

He appreciated the utmost professionalism shown by the officers of the District Administration in the implementation of the Central and State Sponsored Schemes under the able leadership of DC Budgam.

District Budgam will be the pilot district for starting new skill development courses, the minister announced.

He claimed that the courses “will take the district to the next level of achievement”.

During the meeting various delegations from across the district including political representatives, PRIs, school students, common citizens apprised the Minister about their issues and grievances orally as well as by giving memorandums.

As per the Government order, the Minister patiently listened to all the persons/deputations and assured them of speedy redressal of all genuine issues. The Minister also launched mobile applications AurZov (Healthcare Mobile App), Meri Awaaz (Water Bodies Conservation), COVID Care Service Budgam and e-Services Portal on the occasion.

It further said that the building owner Altaf Ahmed as well as tenant Mudasir Ahmed were also called along with the search team. However, in an encounter with the terrorists, both of them received serious bullet injuries and succumbed to their injuries.
